JOIN THE TEAM
SUMMARY
The Mechanic will perform the highest quality maintenance service on hazmat (fuel) and grain hauling transport vehicles while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES BY COMPETENCY: (*denotes an essential function of the position)

*Ensure a safe working environment and promptly report any safety accidents or violations to the proper management
*Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned expenditures
*Adhere to Wallis Companies’ safety programs/policies and proactively work to achieve and maintain the highest safety standards

Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
*Perform monthly inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure regulatory compliance
*Serve on Emergency Response Team to assist in the event of a vehicle accident or spill

Communication
*Communicate with Maintenance Manager, Dispatch Manager and Terminal Managers regarding the status of truck maintenance required
*Communicates in a professional and effective manner with internal and external customers
*Coordinate effectively with all parties involved to repair equipment and place back in service promptly with minimal interruption when placing equipment out of service due to safety hazards,
Build cooperative working relationships with coworkers and vendors through open communication and ongoing support
*Report any personal injuries or any damage done to company property or vehicles within policy timeframes

*Maintain professional image of self and vehicle
Exhibit a professional, friendly and helpful attitude while on the job
*Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs on transport equipment when needed on a 24 hour/day basis

Safety
Attend and participate in safety meetings
*Work diligently to correct safety deficiencies in a timely manner

*Inform Supervisor or Manager of unsafe conditions and behaviors, and recommend how to correct or eliminate them
*Report all work-related injuries immediately, and seek Supervisor/HR approval to authorize medical treatment
Cooperate with the medical provider, and follow the treatment plan and Return-to-Work Program
Work to avoid preventable accidents
*Comply with all OSHA workplace regulations
Technical Expertise
*Perform truck maintenance and trailer inspections to maintain compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
*Detect and report defective material or questionable conditions to the Maintenance Manager
*Maintain knowledge of and follow all DOT rules and regulations, Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations, OSHA regulations, and any other regulations required
*Maintain knowledge of equipment, parts, and required inventory
*Purchase and maintain appropriate parts inventory, ensuring inventory is stocked at appropriate level
*Remove trucks from operation when safety hazards are present, and coordinate repair promptly
*Adhere to all Wallis Companies safety policies and report all safety incidents to supervisor immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: *Required: Equivalent to high school diploma
Preferred: Completion of technical school program in mechanics, vehicle maintenance, or related field
Experience: *Over 3 years up to and including 5 years in vehicle maintenance, transportation, or related field.
Language Skills: *Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English in a manner that is
sufficient for effective communication with groups of managers, clients,
customers and the general public.

Skills and Abilities: Requires an intensive knowledge of a specialty field and the use of a wide range of procedures. Ability to use own judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and transactions and in the determination of actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practice. *Duties require thorough knowledge of DOT regulations and safety requirements. *Ability to proficiently use computer. *Basic math skills.
